Zinc-air batteries

This battery is known as a primary cell because it is not rechargeable. The anode is made of zinc (Zn) and the cathode of activated carbon. The oxygen in the surrounding air reacts with these chemical components. These batteries therefore come with a lid to block the entrance of air. There are two types of zinc-air batteries: button cells which are exclusively reserved for hearing aids and headsets, and industrial batteries in the form of cubic blocks which have a low capacity for a strong current.
They are mainly used for road signs, electric fencing, parking meters and telecommunications.

In terms of electrical specifications, its open circuit voltage (new battery) is 1.5V. Its nominal voltage is 1.4V/1.3V. Its cut-off (when it can no longer be used) is 0.9V. Its working temperature ranges from -20°C to 45°C. Its self-discharge rate is 1% per year giving a long shelf life (1 year minimum). This battery has a good energy/volume ratio and a good price/capacity ratio. Please be careful not to use it in wet environments.
